Niger’s Defense and Security Forces (FDS) announced on Tuesday that they had killed 17 terrorists and apprehended 33 others during several operations conducted nationwide between Feb. 15 and 22.
According to the army’s weekly information bulletin broadcast on national television Tele Sahel, the operations also led to the seizure of 1,098 sticks of dynamite, 48 kg of cannabis, approximately 23,250 liters of smuggled fuel, and several hundred thousand harmful tablets.
During the operations, three improvised explosive devices were reported. Two were “neutralized” by specialized teams, while the third exploded without causing any casualties, resulting only in minor damage to a military vehicle, according to the bulletin.
The Nigerien army stressed that, through targeted offensive actions, reinforced control operations, and rapid interventions based on intelligence, the FDS have consolidated their presence in sensitive areas and inflicted significant blows on armed groups and criminal networks operating in the country.
