By Francis Kobena Tandoh

Former Vice President and flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is scheduled to officially file his nomination papers on Thursday at the party’s headquarters.

His submission comes on the final day of the nomination window, which was opened by the party from July 29 to August 28, 2025.

Sources within the DMB Campaign confirmed to Ghana Eye Report the former vice president will submit his nomination this morning, underscoring his intention to compete strongly in the NPP flagbearer selection process for the 2028 general election.

Similarly, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum is also set to submit his nomination papers with the party at the same venue later in the day.

So far, former General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong, and former Food and Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong have picked and submitted their nomination forms.

NPP stalwart Ing. Francis Addai-Nimoh on Wednesday announced he will not be contesting the party’s presidential primaries, citing four reasons, including what he describes as “inappropriate timing for the conduct of the presidential primary and the top-down approach adopted by the party to conduct internal elections.”

After the close of nomination, the party will then commence vetting of all aspirants between September 15 and 22, 2025, after which a vetting report will be submitted to the leadership of the party on September 29 this year.

The final list of aspirants will be announced and published by the party on October 8, after which a notice of poll will be issued on October 17.

The NPP will then hold a presidential primary to elect its flagbearer on January 31, 2026, and make room for a potential runoff of the primary on February 14, 2026. End item
