At least 28 people were killed and eight others injured on Saturday when a truck collided with two vehicles, and plunged into a ravine in Tanzania’s southern highlands, police said on Sunday.
The fatal crash occurred in the Mbeya region along the busy Tanzania-Zambia highway, according to Mbeya Regional Police Commander Benjamin Kuzaga. Speaking at a news conference, Kuzaga said the truck, which was transporting wheat from the port city of Dar es Salaam to Zambia, experienced brake failure while descending a steep slope.
“The truck hit two vehicles before veering off the road and falling into a ravine,” Kuzaga said, adding that an investigation into the cause of the brake failure was underway. Enditem
