The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is cautioning the general public to take the necessary precautionary measures against cases of influenza; this is according to a statement on Wednesday.
It has therefore urged school authorities, parents, and students to strictly observe flu preventive measures, including seeking early medical care, practicing regular handwashing with soap under running water, and covering coughs/sneezes, as well as disinfecting frequently touched surfaces.
The statement, signed by Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Acting Director-General of the GHS, observed that the country is currently experiencing an increasing case of influenza in parts of the country.
According to the statement, the service has confirmed influenza A strains H3N2 and H1N1, which are part of the seasonal flu viruses.
The Greater Accra, Central, Bono, and Eastern Regions, the GHS noted, have so far reported high cases.
“The Ministry of Health, through the Ghana Health Service, wishes to inform the public that Ghana is currently experiencing an increasing case of seasonal influenza in certain parts of the country. The cases have been confirmed as influenza A strains H3N2 and H1N1, which are part of the seasonal flu viruses,” read the statement.
The GHS assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to contain the high flu cases and urged cooperation from stakeholders. End item
