Movement for Change, a political movement formed prior to the 2024 general election, has officially rebranded as the United Party (UP Plus) at a ceremony in the national capital, Accra, on Thursday.
Speaking at the unveiling of the party, Alan Kyerematen said the rebrand represents a new dawn for Ghanaian politics, enhancing accountability, strengthening the fight against corruption, and providing a credible alternative to the winner-takes-all system.
“A new dawn that will bring about economic transformation, which will translate into massive job opportunities, usher in a golden age of business, and create prosperity for our country, Ghana.
“A new dawn that will mobilize the collective strengths and talents of all Ghanaians for national development, irrespective of age, ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation,” the leader of the new party
“A new dawn that will promote accountable and transparent governance and introduce a policy of zero tolerance for corruption. A new dawn that will at least protect the environment and promote sustainable development. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, this is what underpins the establishment of the United Party,” Kyerematen said.
Party Chairman Abubakar Saddique Boniface said the new identity reflects a renewed commitment to good governance and transformational leadership.
“Today, we present to you the United Party, or UP Plus. The UP Plus is a political organization meant to bring real change to governance.
“We will make a difference because of our focus on universal values and respect for the leadership of competence. We are not just taking people to lead us, but people who are credible, competent, and have a vision,” he stated.
Mr. Kyerematen broke away from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) before the 2024 general election to form the Movement for Change over disagreement with the party.
The movement, however, initiated processes and received its registration certificate from the Electoral Commission on October 3, 2025, formally cementing its new identity. End item
