By: Robert Ayanful

General Overseer of the Jesus Christ Apostolic Faith Church, Snr. Pastor Justice Abban has appealed to the country’s educational authorities to consider reintroducing corporal punishment in schools to check the growing indiscipline.

Speaking at the end of the 84th Camp Meeting of the Church at its headquarters at Agona Asafo in the Central Region, Snr. Pastor Justice Abban also blamed society, including religious organizations, parents and the government of shirking their responsibility by ensuring that children are well brought up, not only in the home, but in the school as well.

He recounted the days when society consider every child as its own, irrespective of where that child is coming from, and one will not hesitate to discipline that child if he or she is going wayward.

He however expressed regrets how society has shirked this responsibility, blaming it on the introduction of democracy with its associated human rights and freedom of speech.

He noted that it is now time for the country to take up the challenge to check this societal anomaly, else the future of the upcoming generation is bleak.

But pointed out that this cannot be done without the involvement of traditional authorities, religious organizations and parents.

The Chief of Agona Asafo and Nimfahen of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Nana Yamfo Esuako XII who graced the occasion also called on the government not to relent on its oars in the fight against illegal mining to help save the country’s river bodies from further pollution, which he said is a result of the activities of the galamsey.

According to him, what is most worrying is the fact that apart from the pollution, these illegal miners also use chemicals in the extraction of the gold and these chemicals contaminate the river, killing majority of the aquatic life in them, and also posing serious health risk to people who live along the banks of these rivers.

He therefore called for stiffer punishment for anyone who would be caught engaging in galamsey activity, to serve as deterrent.

The General Overseer of The Jesus Christ Apostolic Faith Church, Snr. Pastor Justice Abban has bemoaned the high level of Indiscipline in the country, particularly among the youth, stressing it is as a result of the introduction of freedom of speech and human rights which has contributed to the problem.
