The Youth Wing of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for an immediate investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of 6 persons during a military recruitment selection exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, according to a statement on Wednesday.
The statement signed by Salam Mustapha, National Youth Organizer of the party, described the incident as sad and observed that such a thing should not have happened in an era of advanced technology.
According to the party, an inquest into the circumstances of the national tragedy is necessary to prevent a recurrence.
“Today, Wednesday, 12th November 2025, we received with grief the sad demise of six young people undergoing a recruitment exercise after a stampede. This occurred at the El-Wak Sports Stadium as the Ghana Armed Forces organized a body selection exercise in the recruitment process,” read the statement.
“We are, by this statement, calling on the caretaker minister in charge of defense to immediately cause an investigation to be launched to unravel the circumstances leading to this tragedy,” it added.
The party expressed its sincere condolences to the bereaved families and well wishes to the injured. Enditem
