Cameroon’s National Assembly approved a state budget of around 8.82 trillion XAF (about 15.63 billion U.S. dollars) for the 2026 financial year during a plenary that ran overnight into Monday.
The figure marks an increase of 14 percent compared to the previous financial year.
Minister of Finance Louis Paul Motaze said the money will be used to implement the country’s development plan and support national security and the health system.
“There is a sharp increase in the budget because of the creation of a special fund for supporting the economic empowerment of women and promoting youth employment,” Motaze told reporters in the capital, Yaounde, after presenting the budget.
“The new budget also seeks to boost exports and economic stabilization measures and mobilize revenue,” he added.
Cameroon projects an economic growth rate of 4.3 percent in 2026 compared to an estimated growth of 3.9 percent in 2025, said Motaze.
According to a government statement, the growth is expected to be driven primarily by the strong performance in the non-oil sector, while the oil sector is expected to contract slightly by 0.1 percent in 2026. Enditem
