Update: Chaos in Parliament as Minority storms centre of floor to disrupt business over Kpandai seat

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Caucus in Parliament late Tuesday adopted a position to disrupt government business over disagreement with the decision of the House to declare the Kpandai Constituency seat vacant following a Tamale High Court decision.

The Minority, clad in black, had refused to listen to the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga’s statement on the position of the NPP MPs who had made a statement on the matter to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

After two earlier adjournments, the Speaker proceeded to conduct the day’s business, despite the Minority calling for the House to be adjourned. The decision to continue the business of the day angered the Minority, who resorted to obstructing government business by getting up from their seats.

The entire Caucus abandoned their seat and massed up at the centre of the chamber, which temporarily brought proceedings to the House to a halt.

However, the Speaker, after the initial scuffle, went ahead to ensure the business of the day was carried out. Enditem
