At least 34 people sustained injuries after a passenger bus was involved in an accident at Asuboi on the Accra–Kumasi Highway in the early hours of Saturday, January 17, 2026.
The accident involved a KIA Grandbird 34-seater bus, which overturned and landed on its side in the middle of the highway, causing temporary disruption to traffic movement along the busy stretch.
The Suhum Municipal Fire Station received a distress call at about 0255 hours. It promptly dispatched a seven-member rescue team, led by Station Officer II Antwi Forson, to the scene to support rescue operations.
Upon arrival, the fire crew found the driver trapped in the wreckage, while other passengers had already been evacuated by first responders and nearby residents. Using extrication equipment, firefighters safely rescued the driver, who sustained severe injuries.
The remaining passengers suffered varying degrees of minor injuries and were transported to the Suhum Government Hospital for medical attention. Health authorities confirmed that all casualties were receiving treatment, with no fatalities recorded.
Parts of the bus, including the front section, were damaged as a result of the crash, highlighting the impact of the accident. The cause of the incident has not yet been officially determined.
After completing the rescue, the fire officers worked to clear the road and secure the area to prevent secondary accidents before leaving the scene at about 0453 hours. Enditem
