A total of 211,849 delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are expected to vote at 333 polling centres within 276 constituencies across the country, according to the party.

The opposition NPP will hold its presidential primary on Saturday, January 31, 2026, to elect the party’s flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general election.

The Presidential Elections Committee of the party says voting is scheduled to start at 7:00 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m.

The NPP says it has completed all preparations and insists the process will be credible, transparent, and secure.

The Ghana Police Service, under the leadership of Inspector-General Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has pledged full readiness to ensure peace and order on voting day.

The Electoral Commission will oversee polling, and no proxy voting is allowed as delegates are expected to cast their ballots in person.

The Jan. 31 presidential primary is significant for the largest opposition party as the NPP seeks to choose a new leader following its 2024 election defeat.

Among contenders seeking to win the sole slot to lead vying for the flagbearer position include former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, former Food and Agriculture and Abetifi MP Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Vice President and 2024 NPP presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Education Minister and Bosomtwe MP Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

Various polls conducted ahead of the primary have predicted a win for Dr Bawumia with Kennedy Agyapong following closely. Enditem
