With barely four days to the presidential primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), former Vice President and 2024 candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has received significant backing from the Bantama Constituency.
The majority of party executives and delegates in the constituency have signalled strong support for his bid to become the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2028 general election.
Among those who have indicated strong backing for the former Vice President include the Bantama Constituency Chairman and Executives, 15 Electoral Area Coordinators out of 19.
The endorsement comes as part of broader campaign engagements across the country where delegates and constituency leaders are publicly declaring their support for various aspirants.
Member of Parliament for Bantama and former Road Minister Francis Asenso Boakye has urged NPP delegates in the area to vote massively for Dr. Bawumia, citing widespread grassroots demand for his leadership within the party.
Member of Parliament for Damango and former Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Hon. John Abu Jinapor, addressed delegates in Bantama, framing the endorsement of Dr. Bawumia as a reward for loyalty and dedication to the party over the years.
This endorsement adds to a pattern of support for Bawumia from various constituencies and party structures as the primary date approaches. It’s part of internal momentum within the NPP, where different groups — including constituency executives, MPs, and youth organisers — are publicly aligning behind aspirants.
The NPP is scheduled to hold a presidential primary on Jan. 31 to elect a candidate to lead the party in the 2028 general election.
Among contenders seeking to win the sole slot to lead vying for the flagbearer position include former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, former Food and Agriculture and Abetifi MP Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Vice President and 2024 NPP presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Education Minister and Bosomtwe MP Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
Various polls conducted ahead of the primary have predicted a win for Dr Bawumia with Kennedy Agyapong following closely. Enditem
