Mahama Ayariga steps aside from 3-member committee investigating Ayawaso East vote-buying allegations

Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has stepped aside from the three-member committee set up by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to investigate the alleged bribery allegations during the party’s parliamentary primaries at the Ayawaso East Constituency.

The Majority leader told the media Sunday that he took the decision following the stance taken by the Caucus calling for annulment of the NDC parliamentary primary.

According to Ayariga, since he is part of the group to have taken such action, it will be improper for him to serve on the committee since he has already made his position known on the matter.

Meanwhile, the party has replaced the Majority Leader with former Parliamentarian and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Inusah Fuseini.

“The NDC has appointed former MP and Minister, Hon. Inusah Fuseini, to replace Hon. Mahama Ayariga on the committee investigating the reported vote-buying incidents in the Ayawaso East primaries,” said General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey in a post on Sunday.

“Hon. Ayariga had to step down because his position on the committee became untenable following the declared position of the Majority Caucus,” it added.

The NDC’s three-member committee to investigate the allegations of vote-buying and vote-selling in the party’s primaries at the Ayawaso East Constituency is made up of Mr. Kofi Totobi Quakyi, Hon. Inusah Fuseini, and Lawyer Emefa Fugah. Enditem
