Aerial footage filmed on Thursday over Playa Los Cocos and the urban area of Macuto, in La Guaira state, shows the destruction left by the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that struck Venezuela on Wednesday.
Wide areas reduced to rubble, with buildings completely collapsed and columns of smoke still rising from some damaged structures can be seen.
The video also features residents leaving the area, fearing more aftershocks and further building collapses, with long lines of vehicles forming on the main roads out of the coast.
Emergency teams remain deployed in the hardest-hit areas, searching for missing people and providing assistance to survivors.
Venezuela’s Health Ministry said the earthquakes have so far killed around 235 people and injured more than 4,300. The figures remain preliminary as search and rescue operations continue.
Interior, Justice and Peace Minister Diosdado Cabello said nearly 100 buildings had collapsed in La Guaira state, leaving thousands of families affected by destroyed homes and severe damage to infrastructure.
