Carlos Queiroz has announced his decision to quit as head coach for Ghana’s male senior football national team, the Black Stars, according to a post late Sunday.
The decision comes a day after Ghana was eliminated from the round of 32 of the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup by Colombia after qualifying from the group stage.
In a farewell message on his official Facebook page, Queiroz observed that he is leaving the job with pride and stressed the success of the Black Stars must start outside the field.
“Football, like life, teaches us one timeless lesson; you either win or you learn. I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who wanted more,” wrote Queiroz.
The former Portugal, Real Madrid, and Manchester United coach expressed his appreciation to the football association, technical team, players, and Ghanaians for the support given to him during the period as Ghana’s manager.
The 73-year-old Portuguese was appointed 10 weeks to the start of the World Cup for four months after the Ghana Football Association parted ways with former coach Otto Addo.
In all, Queiroz led Ghana in five matches, recording one win, two draws, and two defeats. During the period the Black Stars scored three goals and conceded three goals. Enditem
