A series of earthquakes shook Granada in southern Spain on Tuesday, injuring three people and damaging buildings and vehicles.
Footage shows cars crushed by fallen debris, damaged rooftops and deep cracks running through walls. Families are seen gathering outside near damaged buildings.
“We live in an apartment block. We live on the second floor. They are cracked. The first, second, the third floors are cracked. And it gets worse every time. So we don’t know. The fear, the dread is in our bodies,” Andres, an earthquake victim said.
“It’s been horrible… the building is cracked and I think we are at high risk,” Zulema, a Venezuelan living in Granada stated.
Seven earthquakes struck in succession, four with magnitudes above 4, according to Spain’s National Geographic Institute. The strongest, a magnitude-4.8 quake centred near Gojar, was felt across Granada and other parts of southern Spain.
The tremors came just days after another maginute-5.0 earthquake shook Granada on Saturday. The province is one of Spain’s most seismically active areas.
