The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League (GPL) Matchday 2 produced another exciting round of results, with Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko maintaining their unbeaten starts while defending champions Samartex secured a dramatic away victory.
Here is a wrap of the major talking points in day two of the GPL from selected venues across the country.
Kotoko remain unbeaten: Asante Kotoko defeated Heart of Lions 2–1 at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday scoring in each half. Emmanuel Mamah opened the scoring before Isaac Opoku Agyemang doubled the lead, giving the Porcupine Warriors four points from their opening two games. The visitors however pulled one back late into the game through a penalty awarded to them.
Hearts complete comeback: Hearts of Oak fell behind to Kwame Opoku’s 11th-minute goal at Bibiani but rallied after halftime. Yaw Baafi and Kwaku Boateng Henry scored in quick succession to seal a 2–1 comeback win, giving the Phobians six points from two matches.
Samartex steal late win: Defending champions Samartex recorded perhaps the most dramatic result of the weekend, beating Aduana FC 1–0 away. Ebenezer Okrah scored in second-half stoppage time.
Chelsea bounce back: After suffering a 4–0 defeat to Hearts in Matchday 1, Berekum Chelsea responded strongly with a 3–1 victory over Dreams FC.
AshantiGold impress: FC AshantiGold continued their positive return to the top flight with a 3–1 victory over Vision FC.
Overall, Hearts of Oak, Kotoko and Samartex are among the early teams setting the pace, while several clubs are still searching for their first points of the campaign.
