Tottenham Hotspur forward Mohammed Kudus has withdrawn from Ghana’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, despite being named in Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man Black Stars squad, local media reported on Sunday.
Kudus was initially named in Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man squad after making his return to the national team following a seven-month injury layoff that ruled him out of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign in the U.S.A., Canada, and Mexico.
According to reports, Kudus wants to focus on completing his recovery at Tottenham Hotspur and regaining his best physical condition and form before returning to international action.
His decision comes just days after he made his first start for Tottenham since returning from injury in the Carabao Cup and subsequently came off the bench to register an assist against Aston Villa.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association, which is yet to comment on the decision, is expected to name his replacement in the coming days.
Ghana is scheduled to face Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on September 24 before hosting The Gambia five days later. The Black Stars will also face Morocco in an international friendly on Oct. 4. Enditem
