Pres Mohamud invites investors to help build country’s next chapter at Alamein forum

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud invited African and global investors and financial institutions on Saturday to help build the country’s ‘next stage’ of development.

“We do not present Somalia as a finished history because it is not. We present a country that is rebuilding,” Mohamud told the inaugural Alamein Africa Forum in Egypt.

The president acknowledged that much remained to be built, but argued that the scale of the challenge also offered major investment opportunities across the country.

“We want African investors to see Somalia not as a country recovering from a difficult era, but as a market that’s opening,” he said.

“Somalia is open for business and open for investment and we welcome those who are prepared to build with us,” he added.

Mohamud said Somalia’s economic development was tied to Africa’s future, calling for greater cross-border business partnerships and stronger infrastructure links to connect regional markets.

“We come here ready to work with you, ready to learn from you, and ready to build with you, because the economic future of Africa will depend not only on what each country can achieve individually, but on what we are willing to build together for the African generations to come,” he added.

The inaugural Alamein Africa Forum is being held in Egypt’s coastal city of New Alamein from October 2-4, bringing together around 1,500 government officials, business leaders, investors and representatives of financial institutions.

The gathering is focused on mobilising investment and financing, building cross-border partnerships and strengthening economic integration across Africa.
