Bawumia urges NPP to unite for election 2028

Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the wee hours of Sunday called on all factions that emerged during the party’s internal elections to dissolve and unite behind a single camp ahead of the 2028 general election.

Addressing party faithfuls after the swearing-in of the newly elected national executives of the party, Dr. Bawumia said the internal elections were over, and the focus must now shift to rebuilding the party and preparing for the next national election.

“Elections are over. All the camps will dissolve, and let us have one NPP camp and go and win 2028,” said the NPP Flagbearer.

The former Vice President reiterated that unity would be critical to the party’s efforts to regain power, urging all members and supporters to put their differences behind them and work together.

“Let us all understand that winning 2028 is about unity. Unity in this party will give us victory. Let us come together to work,” he said.

He also urged candidates who lost in the national executive elections not to see themselves as defeated, stressing that the party needed their participation ahead of the 2028 election.

“You did not lose. The NPP won,” Dr Bawumia said, adding that all those who contested would be involved in the party’s campaign for 2028.

He said the newly elected leadership had been given a clear mandate by delegates to work towards returning the party to power and warned that there was no time to waste.

“There is no time to waste. Day one, this week, by the grace of God, we should all meet and begin the process of getting to the 2028 election,” he said.

Dr Bawumia also cautioned that achieving the party’s 2028 objective would require hard work, saying the NPP would have to work harder than it had done in previous elections.

“We must work harder. And let us all start this week by meeting and putting our strategies together to capture power in 2028,” he said. Enditem
