At least 13 people were killed and 34 others injured when a passenger bus slammed into a heavy goods vehicle on Egypt’s Cairo-Assiut Western Desert Road on Tuesday.
Footage shows passenger seats and blood-stained wreckage scattered along the roadside, as emergency crews use heavy machinery to remove the mangled remains of the bus and clear the highway.
The crash occurred near the junction with the regional ring road towards Giza, where the bus reportedly struck the rear of a truck. The impact tore off the entire front section of the bus, leaving a trail of twisted metal and debris across the highway.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population, said 28 ambulances were dispatched to the scene, with 30 injured people transported to 6 October Central Hospital for treatment.
He added that nearby hospitals had been placed on high alert, with additional medical resources mobilised to treat the victims.
The Health Ministry initially reported 12 deaths and 30 injuries, before local media raised the toll to 13 dead and 34 injured.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
