Algeria, Niger sign military cooperation protocol

Algeria and Niger on Wednesday signed a military cooperation protocol during a working visit by Nigerien Defense Minister Salifou Mody to Algiers, Algeria’s Ministry of National Defense said.

Aimed at strengthening bilateral military and security ties, the protocol was signed following talks between Mody and Said Chanegriha, chief of staff of the People’s National Army of Algeria, according to a statement from the ministry.

During the meeting, Chanegriha said the Algerian army was prepared to consider any Nigerien proposal to advance bilateral cooperation in line with the two countries’ interests, the statement noted.

For his part, Mody hailed the multidimensional coordination between the two countries’ armed forces, it added.

The statement did not disclose details of the protocol.

The agreement comes as Algeria and Niger seek to deepen cooperation in security, energy and hydrocarbons, alongside joint economic and development projects.  Enditem
