The Ministerial Committee formed by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit on Gaza on Tuesday called for a ceasefire and an immediate, sustained and large-scale flow of life-saving humanitarian aid to all in need in the enclave.
In a statement, the committee expressed concerns that the deliberate deprivation of vital supplies and the use of humanitarian aid as a weapon have pushed the Palestinian population to the brink of starvation.
Echoing warnings from UN agencies and humanitarian partners, it views Israel’s intention to allow “limited aid delivery” and its creation of a new aid distribution model as a contravention of humanitarian principles and international law.
The committee reiterated its call for the international community to assume its moral and legal responsibilities, and pressure Israel to immediately lift its blockade, cease its “aggression”, and comply with UN resolutions and international law.
The committee also expressed deep concern over Israeli military incursions into the occupied West Bank and accompanying “illegal practices,” including settlement construction, home demolitions and settler violence.
It rejected any annexation attempts or illegal unilateral measures seeking to alter the legal and historical status quo at holy sites in Jerusalem.
The committee also reaffirmed its full commitment to achieving a political solution guaranteeing Palestinian rights, including the independence of the State of Palestine and the implementation of the two-state solution.
Applauding a joint statement by the leaders of Britain, France and Canada regarding the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, the committee said it shares the three countries’ leaders’ rejection of military operations and the ongoing assault on Palestinian civilians in the strip.
The three countries said on Monday that “if Israel does not cease the renewed military offensive and lift its restrictions on humanitarian aid,” they will take further concrete actions.
The Ministerial Committee, established on Nov. 11, 2023, includes the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Palestine, along with the heads of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Enditem
