University of Ghana suspends social gatherings amid COVID-19 resurgence

The University of Ghana has announced the suspension of all social gatherings on its campus, according to a statement released here on Wednesday.

The statement, signed by Prof. Rosina I. Kyerematen, Dean of Students’ Affairs, observed that the suspension affects all student bodies and celebrations of various activities on the university campus until further notice.

“Due to the resurgence of COVID-19 cases on the University of Ghana campus, it has become necessary to suspend all social gatherings with immediate effect,” said the statement.

According to the statement, the Office of Student Affairs is taking precautionary measures to safeguard the health and well-being of the university community.

The university further urged full compliance from all student leaders and stakeholders, emphasizing that the directive is in the best interest of public health on campus.

The University of Ghana health services directorate issued an alert over a recent resurgence of COVID-19 on its campus on Monday and urged students, staff, and visitors to the community to exercise caution.

The university subsequently outlined several measures, including the wearing of face masks, regular handwashing, application of hand sanitizers, and maintaining social distancing.
