The John Mahama-led government has disbursed an amount of GH₵462 million or 44.3 million U.S. dollars to support the training of some 120,000 nursing trainees in the country, according to a statement by the ministry of health late Thursday.
The rationale behind the disbursement of the allowance is to boost the manpower needs of the health sector.
The payment, the health ministry observed, covers a six-month period and is part of a broader government initiative to provide financial support to facilitate the training of nurses in the West African country.
“The Ministry of Health can confirm that an amount of GH₵462 million, or 44.3 million U.S. dollars, has been disbursed to support the training of 120,000 nursing students across the country,” said the statement.
The ministry further stated that the financial support to the nursing students gives credence to the government’s resolve to strengthen the sector.
“The ministry views this development as a significant step in improving the welfare of nursing trainees and sustaining the motivation of future health professionals. It further aligns with ongoing efforts to strengthen the health sector by ensuring that critical human resources receive the support throughout their training,” added the statement. Enditem
