Several terrorists were killed by the Nigerien army in response to an attack on the western town of Namaro earlier this week, national broadcaster Tele Sahel reported on Wednesday.
The attack took place on Monday, and a nearby military detachment responded swiftly, with support from an air unit, which helped neutralize the assailants, said the report.
“Thanks to a prompt reaction by ground troops and aerial support, the terrorists were wiped out,” it said.
During the clashes, two civilians in Namaro were killed by stray bullets.
The local chief of Namaro, Abdoul Moumouni Maiga Hamani, commended soldiers for their bravery and expressed condolences to the victims’ families. Enditem
