A total of thirteen (13) prospective candidates picked up nomination forms on Friday to contest the Tamale Central parliamentary seat on the ticket of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Among those who picked up forms are a former mayor, two lecturers, a diplomat, and other notable figures, with two of the aspirants being women.
The nomination process, which spans three days, opened on Friday, August 22, 2025, and will close on Sunday, August 24. Filing and submission of completed forms is scheduled for Thursday, August 28, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The 13 aspirants who have so far picked nomination forms include:
Abdul Hanan Gundadoo – Former Mayor, Tamale Metropolitan Assembly
Lawyer Abdul Rauf Halid – National Vice Chairman, NDC
Dr. Seidu Mohammed Fiter – Lecturer, UDS
Mariama Naama Salifu – Princess Yelzoli of Zabzugu & Diplomat
Dr. Rahman A. Rashid
Dr. Aliu Abdul Hamid – Civil Engineer
Prof. Razak Abubakari – Senior Lecturer, Tamale Technical University
Alhaji Alhassan Nbalba – Former Chairman, NDC-UK/Ireland Chapter
Prof. Alidu Seidu – Senior Lecturer, Political Science Dept., University of Ghana
Hajia Muliaka Suliasu
Sadat Harun Alhassan – Lawyer
Alhassan Osman Gomda – Entrepreneur
Hajia Shamima Yakubu – Regional Treasurer
Meanwhile, party executives at the regional level have urged all aspirants and their supporters to conduct a clean and decent campaign ahead of the primaries.
The Tamale Central parliamentary seat became vacant following the tragic death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, in a military helicopter crash on August 6 at Sikaman, near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
The late MP was among seven others, including three security personnel, who lost their lives when the aircraft went down during an official assignment to address the activities of illegal mining. Enditem
