The police in Ada have intercepted 248 bags of smuggled cocoa beans loaded into two tipper trucks, according to a statement by the Tema Regional Police Command on Friday.
According to the statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Region, on 10th September, 2025, at about 5 pm, the Ada District Police Command Patrol team intercepted a green double-axle SHACMAN tipper truck with registration number GN6953-22, driven by suspect Solomon Tetteh, aged 28, and an orange CNHTC double-axle tipper truck with registration number GR 9877-12, driven by suspect Nicholas Tetteh, aged 27, at Big Ada near the Ada Senior High School.
The police indicated that both tipper trucks were loaded with cocoa beans suspected of having been smuggled.

According to the police, upon a subsequent search of the two vehicles, 248 bags of cocoa beans were concealed in jute and nylon sacks, hence leading to the arrest of the owner of the goods, suspect Stephen Okronipa, aged 36, and the two tipper drivers.

The police observed that the three suspects have since been detained, and the two vehicles have been impounded. At the same time, the exhibit cocoa beans have been handed over to COCOBOD in Tema for safekeeping.

The police urged the public, especially persons involved in transportation and traders, to desist from engaging in such activities and stated that persons found to be aiding or abetting in such illegal activities will be dealt with according to the laws of the land. End item
