Member of Parliament (MP) for Bosomtwe and former Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, on Wednesday declared his intention to contest for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential slot ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a Facebook post Dr. Adutwum formally announced his decision, making it clear he would join the race once nominations are officially opened by the party.
“With humility, conviction, and a resolute heart, I, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, declare my intent to run for the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should nominations be officially opened by the party,” he wrote.
He is widely recognized for his contributions to education reform during his tenure as minister under the Akufo-Addo administration.
Dr. Adutwum now joins a growing list of senior NPP figures openly expressing interest in leading the party into the next presidential election slated for next year.
His declaration comes at a time when Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s 2024 flagbearer is considered a leading contender, with other high-profile personalities like Kennedy Agyapong and Bryan Acheampong, Kwabena Adje Agyapong among others expected to enter the race.
The NPP’s confirmed January 31, 2026, as the official date for its presidential primary, a timeline set by the party’s National Council after recommendations from the constitutional review committee. Enditem
