The 35th edition of the TotalEnergies Confederation of African Football (CAF) Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) kicks off on Sunday, 21 December 2025, in Morocco.
The opening game of the tournament will be between hosts Morocco and Comoros in the capital, Rabat.
According to the CAF, the opening ceremony and match kick-off are set for early evening (local time) at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
Morocco is hosting across multiple cities, such as Rabat, Casablanca, Agadir, Fès, Marrakech, and Tangier, with state-of-the-art stadiums ready for a packed schedule of matches.
In all, 24 teams will be competing across the nine stadiums in six cities in the North African country.
The top teams to emerge from the six groups will progress to the knockout rounds of the competition.
Morocco, as the host nation, starts the tournament and is among the favorites. Star players like Achraf Hakimi are expected to feature, although some teams face key absences due to injury.
