Former president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday urged flagbearer hopefuls of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to conduct a decorous campaign ahead of the party’s presidential primary next year.
In a breakfast meeting with all five presidential aspirants of the party, the former president emphasized that his primary commitment is to the unity of the NPP, the credibility of the process, and working towards a properly energized and rallied party, fully prepared to secure victory in the 2028 elections.
He observed that he has worked closely with all the aspirants and holds them in high esteem, stressing that their candidacies are based on merit and their significant contributions to the party and the nation.
Nana Akufo-Addo encouraged the aspirants to conduct their campaigns in a “healthy, issue-based manner that focuses on presenting their visions to the party delegates.”
He thanked them for the positive engagement and urged the NPP national leadership to ensure a credible and fair process to facilitate the unity of the party after the presidential primaries.
The various presidential candidates took turns and gave assurance, and that of their campaign teams, to maintain a healthy but competitive campaign atmosphere.
Furthermore, they expressed their commitment and that of their supporters to rally behind the eventual winner and uphold the unity of the party after the primaries.
The NPP will hold a presidential primary on January 31, 2026, and the flagbearer hopefuls include former Assin Central Member of Parliament Ken Ohene Agyapong;Member of Parliament for Abetifi Dr. Bryan Acheampong; former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; former Education Minister and MP for Bosomtwe Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum; and former General Secretary Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong. End item
