Printing of ballot papers for the Akwatia Constituency by-election is set to be carried out on Wednesday, August 20, the Electoral Commission (EC) confirmed on Tuesday after a meeting with the Inspector-General of Police.
Electoral Commission Director of Electoral Services, Benjamin Bano-Bioh, observed that the electoral management body was ready to print the ballot papers for next month’s election.
He said, “Procurement has already been done. We have procured all the materials required for the election, so we are already. As of now, we are going to start the printing of ballots from tomorrow.”
Benjamin Bano-Bioh further explained that his outfit is “poised to deliver on our mandate in a professional way” and called on the political parties to play by the rules.”
The Akwatia Constituency by-election became necessary following the death of Ernest Yaw Kumi, former Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, in July this year after a protracted legal tussle immediately after the 2024 general election.
The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has elected Bernard Bediako as its candidate to go against the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) Solomon Kwame Asumadu.
