A total of 12 excavators, 20 changfans, and other tools have been seized in the latest operation by the Blue Water Guards and National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), Director of Communications at the Lands Ministry, Ama Mawusi, confirmed to the media on Friday.

Speaking to the media to review the week’s operations, Ama Mawusi observed that significant progress has been made this week in the fight against illegal mining through joint operations carried out by the task force.

According to the ministry, the two units have successfully confiscated more than 12 excavators and several changfan machines, particularly in the Eastern and Western Regions, where illegal mining was taking place in water bodies and forest reserves.

“For excavators, we got about 12 of them; we picked about 5 motorbikes, 4 excavator batteries, some computer monitors, 2 heavy-duty water pumps, several fuel drums, and multiple makeshift structures. Others include 24 pumping machines, 20 changfans, and other tools, a couple of which were all found and destroyed. Basically, this is the activity the team undertook in the course of the week,” said Mawusi.

She emphasized that the ministry remains committed to eradicating illegal mining across the country.

The government, in its quest to combat illegal mining, recently launched the Blue Water Guards and the Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) to fight the menace, which many see as a national security threat. Enditem
