Stephen Asamoah Boateng, a former Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has declared his intention to contest for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairmanship position, according to a statement released on Saturday.

According to the former minister, his goal in seeking the position is to help build a more disciplined, united, and well-structured party that will serve the interests of Ghanaians.

“My fellow patriots, the time has come for me to officially declare my intentions to contest the National Chairman position for the NPP. I have always been committed to the good course of the party, and I will ensure that we work together as a family to have a structured NPP for the good people of Ghana,” read the statement.

Asamoah Boateng, popularly known as ‘Asabee,’ further emphasized that his leadership will usher in a new era of disciplined and structured NPP and expressed optimism that delegates of the party will support his vision.

Apart from serving as Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister, Mr. Asamoah Boateng also served as Minister for Information, as well as Local Government and Rural Development Minister.

Meanwhile, NPP stalwart and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko has already declared his intention to go for the same position if the party opens up nominations after its presidential primary on January 31, 2026. Enditem
