Bibiani Gold Stars strengthened their title chase after edging fellow title contenders Hearts of Oak 2-1 in matchday 24 of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) at Dun’s Park on Sunday.
The Bibiani team capitalised on the slip by league leaders Medeama, following their goalless draw with Swedru All Blacks, by securing all three points to strengthen their own title push.
Samuel Acheampong opened the scoring in the 15th minute, giving the hosts an early advantage. Hearts of Oak stayed in the game largely due to goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, whose series of important saves kept the scoreline close going into halftime.
The visitors returned with renewed energy after the break and found their equaliser in the 64th minute through Henry Kwaku Boateng, setting up a tense finish.
However, Augustine Boakye struck in the 90th minute to seal a dramatic victory for Gold Stars and send the home fans into celebration.
The result leaves Hearts of Oak five points off the pace after missing another opportunity to close the gap. They are now without a win in their last two matches since their Super Clash triumph over Asante Kotoko. Enditem
