The Black Stars of Ghana will play against World Cup co-host, Mexico, in an international friendly ahead of the Mundial, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed on Tuesday.

According to the Football Association, Ghana will play Mexico in an international friendly on May 22 in a yet-to-be-confirmed venue as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The friendly encounter with Mexico becomes the third confirmed warm-up match for the Black Stars ahead of the tournament in June.

Ghana had already scheduled friendlies against Austria and Germany in March, with the Mexico clash adding another important test as the team fine-tunes its readiness for the global showpiece in North America.

The international friendly presents Otto Addo’s side a useful dress rehearsal ahead of their Group L opener against Panama, who share a similar regional football profile to that of the Mexicans.

The West Africans, who are making their fifth appearance, begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto before taking on England and Croatia in their remaining group matches.

Mexico, on the other hand kick off their world Cup campaign against South Africa on June 11, before playing either South Korea, Czech Republic, Denmark, Republic of Ireland, or North Macedonia in the other Group A matches. Enditem
