An intelligence led operation in Sampa, has led to the recovery of eight (8) assorted weapons and the arrest of 24 suspects, the Bono Regional Police Command confirmed in a statement on Saturday.
The statement, signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer for the Bono Regional Police Command, the operation was carried out in collaboration with the 3rd Infantry Battalion (3BN) of the Ghana Armed Forces and the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI).
The operation, conducted in the early hours of the day, forms part of efforts by security agencies to clamp down on the proliferation of illegal weapons and criminal activities in the area.
“The exercise led to the recovery of eight assorted weapons and the arrest of 24 suspects in Sampa Township,” read the statement.
A number of items believed to be linked to criminal activities were also retrieved during the operation. These include five pump-action guns, one Baikal gun, two locally manufactured firearms, and 790 rounds of AAA&BB cartridges, one pouch, seven pairs of black boots and desert boots, six whiskies and one AK 47 ammunition.
The Security personnel also seized other materials such as machetes, bayonets, knives, clubs, military-style jackets, body armour, and a quantity of talisman. Additionally, several mobile phones, motorbikes, and tools were retrieved from the suspects.
Police identified the suspects as individuals aged between 13 and 78, including both young persons and adults. Authorities indicated that some of the suspects were picked up for breaching curfew regulations currently in force in the area.
Two of the suspects, identified as Sie Emmanuel and Mensah Kofi Emmanuel, were specifically arrested for violating the curfew, according to the statement.

All suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with investigations. The Police say steps are underway to process them for court.
The Bono Regional Police Command noted that the operation was part of a broader strategy to rid the region of unlawful weapons and ensure public safety.
“The security apparatus of the region, in its quest to get rid of weapons and criminal elements, embarked on this tactical operation,” the statement explained.
Authorities have assured residents that similar operations will continue as part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the region.
The Police also appealed to the public to support security agencies by providing credible information that could lead to the arrest of individuals involved in illegal activities.
“We call on the general public to assist the Police with credible information that can lead to the arrest of suspects in possession of unlawful weapons,” the statement added.
