Tests of the Burevestnik missile should not strain the relationship between Russia and the United States, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.
The development of new weapons systems, including the Burevestnik, is guided by Russia’s national interests and continues to strengthen its security, Peskov told a briefing.
“There is nothing here that could or should ‘strain’ relations between Moscow and Washington, especially since these relations are at a minimal level,” the Kremlin spokesman noted.
On Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that his country has completed the decisive tests of the nuclear-powered cruise missile.
In a briefing with Putin, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov said the Burevestnik missile completed a 14,000-km test flight that lasted around 15 hours on Tuesday, adding that the range could be longer.
U.S. President Donald Trump called the tests “inappropriate,” saying Russia should focus on ending the conflict with Ukraine instead. Enditem
