The Confederation of African Football has unveiled the official mascot for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, introducing “Assad” as a tribute to the Atlas lion, a historic and cultural symbol of the host nation and a reflection of shared values across Africa.
CAF said the mascot embodies the spirit of the tournament, representing strength, pride and cultural richness. Designed with a youthful and approachable appearance, Assad is intended to capture Africa’s vibrant energy. Its Arabic name is aimed at creating a strong emotional connection with fans in Morocco and across the continent.
Assad will play a central promotional role during the tournament, appearing in stadiums, fan zones, community events and international marketing campaigns. CAF said the mascot will also feature prominently in digital content, with a particular focus on children and families, who are seen as key to the future of African football.
CAF added that Assad’s role will extend beyond the 2025 tournament, with the mascot to be incorporated into longer-term initiatives supporting the development of football on the continent, including youth programs, school outreach and community projects. The approach is part of a broader strategy to strengthen fan engagement and participation across Africa.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will kick off on December 21, with host Morocco facing Comoros at Stade Moulay Abdellah in Rabat. Enditem
