Cape Verdean President Jose Maria Neves said on Wednesday that his country is ready to work with China to advance the strategic partnership between the two sides.

Neves made the remarks in the country’s capital, Praia, when receiving the credentials of Zhang Yang, the new Chinese ambassador to Cape Verde.

Neves expressed heartfelt appreciation for China’s long-standing assistance to Cape Verde’s economic and social development. He highly praised the fruitful results achieved in bilateral cooperation across various fields in recent years.

Cape Verde firmly supports the one-China principle, he stressed.

For his part, Zhang said China and Cape Verde enjoy a time-honored friendship. Under the guidance of the leaders of both countries, political mutual trust has been strengthened and practical cooperation in multiple areas has been deepened, said the ambassador.

China stands ready to work with Cape Verde to carry forward the traditional friendship and further advance the strategic partnership between the two countries, he added.
