At least eight Boko Haram militants were killed after Chadian security forces repelled a coordinated attack in the Lake Chad region, President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno said on Tuesday.
The militants launched the assault late Monday on an advanced position of Chad’s Defense and Security Forces, but the “valiant soldiers vigorously retaliated,” killing eight attackers, the president said in a statement posted on social media.
He said one soldier was killed and two others were wounded in the attack, adding that those wounded in the clashes were receiving medical treatment.
“Chad remains steadfast, and the hunt for the remnants of terrorism continues relentlessly,” he added.
The terror group Boko Haram has been active in the Lake Chad basin for more than a decade, inflicting heavy human and material losses across the region. Enditem
