Chadian president, CAR special envoy discuss regional integration

Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, president of Chad, and Richard Filakota, special envoy of Central African Republic (CAR) President Faustin-Archange Touadera, held talks on Tuesday to discuss bilateral relations and regional integration.

The talks focused on issues of integration into the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) zone, according to a statement issued by the Chadian presidency.

The talk came just two weeks after two rebel leaders in the CAR announced the dissolution of their armed movements and joined the country’s peace and reconciliation process, with Chad acting as mediator.

During the meeting with the Chadian president, Filakota, also the CAR’s minister of economy, planning and international cooperation, “expressed his deep gratitude to the head of state (Chadian president) for his immeasurable efforts to restore peace in the CAR,” the statement said.

CEMAC is a regional bloc that promotes economic integration among six Central African countries, including Cameroon, Chad, and the CAR.  Enditem
