Chinese community in Ghana pledges closer cooperation to strengthen bilateral ties

The Chinese community in Ghana has pledged stronger cooperation with their Ghanaian counterparts to deepen the bonds of friendship between the two countries.

Tong Defa, Chinese ambassador to Ghana, said at a press briefing organized by the Ghana-China Friendship Association (GHACHIFA) on Wednesday, that he is optimistic relations between the two countries would continue to flourish under the leadership of both nations. He also commended the association for its contributions to promoting bilateral friendship.

Tang Hong, chairman of GHACHIFA, said that the Chinese community is committed to Ghana’s development and progress, viewing the country as their second home.

According to Tang, the Chinese community has recently extended support to Ghana in several areas, including relief for over 50,000 displaced people during the Gbenyiri conflict in the Savannah Region, the “Minimally Invasive Surgery in Ghana and Seeing the Beautiful World” charity program at Lekma Hospital, and support for Ghana’s gun amnesty programs.

“As we step into 2026, together with GHACHIFA, the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies will redouble its efforts to promote deeper cultural and educational exchanges, facilitate business and investment dialogues, support youth and women-led initiatives in the spirit of global cooperation, and commemorate, throughout the year, the enduring spirit of Africa-China friendship,” he said.

Anani Demuyakor, Ghana’s former ambassador to China and co-chairman of GHACHIFA, encouraged Ghanaians to capitalize on China’s zero-tariff policy to expand agricultural exports to the Chinese market, which has a growing demand for African produce.  Enditem
