Chinese Embassy in Ghana celebrates 98th founding anniversary of PLA

The Chinese Embassy in Ghana has hosted a reception in Accra, the Ghanaian capital, to commemorate the 98th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

The event held on late Wednesday featured speeches and a photo exhibition celebrating the PLA’s contributions to global peace and development.

In his speech, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Tong Defa expressed appreciation for Ghana’s consistent support for China’s reunification efforts and firm stance against separatism.

Reflecting on shared history, Tong recalled how, 80 years ago, nations including China and Ghana stood united against fascist forces during World War II.

“Together, we will continuously enrich the connotations of the China-Ghana Strategic Partnership and jointly begin a new historical chapter of friendly cooperation in the new era,” Tong stated.

Dou Yan, defense attache at the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, emphasized China’s role as a global peacebuilder, development contributor, and guardian of the international order. He noted that military relations between China and Ghana have yielded fruitful results in recent years.

The Chinese military will continue to promote steady, long-term, and in-depth relations with the Ghana Armed Forces and join hands to address regional and global security challenges on the basis of mutual trust, mutual benefit, and mutual learning, Dou said.

Ghana’s Minister for Defense Edward Omane Boamah praised China for its consistent support of Ghana’s military development. “China has provided invaluable assistance to Ghana’s military, enhancing our capabilities through infrastructural development, training, and equipment support,” the minister said.

He specifically acknowledged China’s role in the construction of the defense ministry building and other ongoing military projects supported by the Chinese government.

The minister reiterated Ghana’s continuous support for China’s position on key global issues, particularly the one-China principle, adding that this mutual understanding and respect would continue to strengthen the foundation of the bilateral relations.  Enditem
