Chinese medical team spreads traditional medicine knowledge in Sierra Leone

The 26th batch of the Chinese medical team to Sierra Leone collaborated with the Confucius Institute at the University of Sierra Leone to host a cultural exchange event on Wednesday to promote traditional medicine.

During the event, the medical team provided specialized health services for senior faculty and staff, while hands-on demonstrations of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) techniques were showcased alongside consultations by TCM practitioners.

The program also included free clinic services and cardiopulmonary resuscitation training for the locals, along with traditional medicine exchanges between the Chinese and Sierra Leoneans. Students from the Confucius Institute also performed Tai Chi, music, and tea art.

Guo Jianjun, director of the TCM Center at the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital, highlighted the benefits of integrating Chinese and local herbal treatments.

Liu Longfei, head of the medical team, stressed the vital role traditional medicine plays in promoting health, pointing out the harmonious philosophies shared by Chinese and Sierra Leonean traditions.

Richard Noah Musa from Traditional and Complementary Medicine in Sierra Leone said that approximately 80 percent of the population relies on traditional medicine before seeking conventional care.

He revealed plans for collaboration between Sierra Leonean and Chinese traditional practices to enhance community health.  Enditem
