The five-member committee set up by President John Dramani Mahama to inquire into the three petitions calling for the removal of the Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, begins hearing on Thursday, the presidency announced Wednesday.

A statement released here, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, observed that the committee will sit three times a week and present their recommendations to the president upon completion of their work.

“The committee set up by President John Dramani Mahama to inquire into the three petitions filed against the Chief Justice will commence hearings tomorrow, Thursday, 15th May, 2025,” said the statement.

“The five-member Committee, chaired by Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang of the Supreme Court, was set up by the President in accordance with Article 146(6) of the 1992 constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, following a determination of a prima facie case against the Chief Justice,” it added.

The embattled Chief Justice was suspended on April 22 this year following a prima facie case established by the Council of State after the president forwarded three petitions he received for the removal of Gertrude Torkornoo.

The committee will determine whether the allegations against the Chief Justice warrant her removal or reinstatement in office. Enditem
