The government of Cote d’Ivoire on Monday launched a nationwide malaria vaccination campaign for nearly 420,000 children aged six to 23 months across the country’s 115 health districts.
The 10-day campaign marks “a key step toward a malaria-free Cote d’Ivoire by 2030,” said Minister of Health Pierre N’gou Dimba at the campaign’s launch in N’zianouan, about 120 km from the economic capital Abidjan.
“Children under the age of five are the most vulnerable,” the minister said, citing an “alarming incidence rate of 920 cases per 1,000 children” in 2024. He also warned that the malaria situation has worsened due to rising resistance to insecticides, which has surged from 25 percent to 80 percent in recent years.
Malaria remains “one of the major public health challenges” in Cote d’Ivoire, with 4.43 million cases reported nationwide in 2024, he added. Enditem
