The Ministry of Education has released approved fees for students of the University of Ghana for the 2025/2026 academic year, according to a statement on Monday.

The statement, signed by Hon. Clement Abas Apaak, Deputy Minister for Education and Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa South Constituency, noted that the fees are specifically for University of Ghana students and cannot be applied by any other public tertiary institution in the country.

The items contained in the approved fees include;

1.  Academic Facility User fee to be pegged at the 2024/2025 rate

2.  Student Representative Council (SRC) dues: GH¢50

3.  SRC Development Levy: GH¢150

4.  Graduate Students (GRASAG) Development levy: GH¢250

5.  Telecel broadband Levy: GH¢122 across all levels for undergraduate students, including Freshmen. This should be treated as optional, and students must be properly educated about their right to opt out if they so decide

6.  75th Anniversary Levy: GH¢100 (this cannot be charged beyond this academic year)

The statement further announced that the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has established a Fee Review Committee, chaired by Hon. Clement Apaak, to review future fee adjustment proposals by public tertiary institutions for onward recommendation to Parliament for approval.

The University of Ghana recently announced a 25 percent increase in fees, which received an uproar from students.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) urged the University of Ghana to withdraw the fees, as that was not what had been agreed upon.

The Ministry of Education intervened and subsequently set up a committee under the chairmanship of the Deputy Minister for Education, with other members including GTEC Council Chair, Management, and Students representatives from the University of Ghana, and arrived at the new fees. Enditem
