The claim that Ghana’s Falcon 900 Presidential Jet is unserviceable is patently false and deliberately misleading. The aircraft remains in good operational condition and is fully capable of serving the nation for at least another 25 years, according to credible aviation assessments.
The narrative that the jet is no longer usable is a calculated ruse designed to justify unnecessary and extravagant expenditure on private jet rentals for presidential travel.
It is deeply troubling that the current administration is engaging in the same conduct it vehemently opposed while in opposition. Not long ago, this government, led by Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa—now the Minister for Foreign Affairs—launched a sustained public attack on former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for chartering private jets for international assignments. At the time, they described the practice as wasteful, elitist, and insensitive to the economic realities of Ghanaians.
Today, however, those same voices have fallen silent—or worse, are now seeking to rationalize the very behavior they once condemned. The claim that the Falcon 900 is unfit for use is nothing but a pretext to pave the way for lavish private jet charters at the expense of the Ghanaian taxpayer.
This hypocrisy is unacceptable.
It is not a matter of security, safety, or technical deficiency. It is a matter of convenience and luxury, pursued at great cost to national resources. If this government could oppose the use of private jets while in opposition, it must be held to the same standard now that it is in power.
Ghanaians deserve honesty, consistency, and accountability from their leaders—not double standards and political theatre. We call on the government to immediately disclose all costs associated with recent presidential travels, including any private jet rentals, and to provide the full technical status report of the Falcon 900 aircraft to the public.
