First-year senior high school (SHS) students to be admitted for the 2025/2026 academic year for both single-track and transitional schools will report to school on October 18, 2025, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed.

According to a circular signed by Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director for Schools and Instruction Division, the freshers will be in school till December 20th, when schools will break for the Christmas festivities.

“The management of the Ghana Education Service wishes to inform Heads of all Second Cycle Institutions of the 2025/2026 Academic Calendar. “The reporting date for first-year students (Single Track and Transitional Schools) is 18th October, 2025,” read the statement.

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) released provisional results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) over the weekend.

This paves the way for the Computerized Schools Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) Secretariat to commence the school placement process.

Meanwhile, some schools, categorized as ‘transitional schools,’ will continue to run the double-track system to contain the sheer numbers accessing those educational institutions.

The GES confirmed the continuation of the double-track system with a detailed academic calendar for both single-track and transitional schools. Enditem
